The Motorola Xoom has yet to be unleashed on to the UK's high streets, but we're already seeing retailers trimming the Android 3.0 tablet's price tag. Dixons has knocked £20 off the Wi-Fi only Motorola Xoom, while Carphone Warehouse has done the same on the 3G model. While £20 isn't exactly a price slashing saving – after all, you'll still be paying £480 for the Wi-Fi only version from Dixons and £579.99 for a 3G model from Carphone – it hints at a lack of confidence in the Motorola tablet. The Motorola Xoom 3G UK release date is set to be in mid-April, when you can also pick up the tablet for £199.99 on a 24-month £25 contract from Carphone Warehouse too. Poor Xoom Sales in the US, which began back in February, have been reported as slow, with Deutsche Bank estimated that only 100,000 units have been shifted so far . 100,000 units doesn't sound too bad, until you consider that Apple is reckoned to have exchanged 2.5m iPad 2s for cash in the first hour of sales in the US in March. The pre-emptive price cuts in the UK suggest that retailers are trying to prevent low launch sales of the long-awaited tablet. But will a £20 saving really pay off?
