Sir Howard Stringer, the CEO of Sony, has announced that there will be a Sony tablet released in the summer that will run Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Sony has been very quiet on the tablet front, letting its main rivals – Samsung and LG – release iPad competitors, while it focuses on 3D and music streaming. But now it seems that we will see a Sony tablet this summer and Android is the OS of choice, according to the Japanese newspaper, Nikkei, and reported by Bloomberg . Tablet talk Stringer did hint at CES 2011 that tablets were part of the Sony roadmap, but has been quiet as to what the Sony tablet will look like. The last rumour was that it will be called the S1 and it would look completely different from the iPad, with a massive lip resembling a rolled up newspaper. While reports in February stated that the tablet would have a Tegra 2 chip inside, if the S1 release date is indeed the Summer then it could come brandishing a new quadcore Tegra chip. Sony also has a lot of features that could plug into the device to make it a true iPad rival.
